Pregnancy and Bed Rest: 10 Survival Supplies

When pregnancy complications strike, what the doctor often prescribes is a nice long dose of the dreaded bed rest. However, I'm here to tell you that this time spent at rest does not have to be a bore of epic proportions; in fact, with just a few helpful supplies, your bed rest can both be fun and fulfilling!
Don't let your pregnancy complications drag you into the dumps! I've put together a shopping list of 10 supplies that will help keep your head above water; or, uh, above the sheets, anyway!
10 Bed Rest Survival Supplies
1. Your Phone; Become a Chatty Cathy
If you've been waiting to take the plunge on a handy dandy, super advanced, smartphone then now is as good a time as ever! Not only will you be able to schedule calls with friends and family, but you can spend hours looking through apps, playing games, and can even have both you and daddy download one of those neat walkie talkie apps; great for when you need a foot rub!
2. Games, Cards, & Puzzles... Oh my!
Put a little table together along the side of the bed chock full of your favorite board games, card games, and puzzles. Having entertainment at arm's length will help tremendously. Pick out games that you and your partner both enjoy.
3. Snacks, Gum, Mints, & Delicious Drinks
In an easy to reach basket, have your honey stock up a daily supply of healthy snacks, water bottles, and your preferred flavor enhancers to add to the water. Having the independence to reach for these items when you want them, will help you to have more control over your pregnancy complications.
4. Splurge on Memory Foam!
Comfort is key when on bed rest. Make sure that you have plenty of stand-by blankets and extra pillows nearby. I recommend splurging a little on a nice memory foam pillow that you can sink right into; you deserve it!
5. Shop Amazon.com for a Kindle Fire!
Bring your newspaper subscriptions, your favorite magazines, and all of the books you could ever want to read right to your fingertips without having to move a muscle. Amazon allows you to download everything that you need right onto this new full-color, back-lit, Kindle.
6. Ransack Bath & Body Works Online!
Perfume, tissues, cleaning wipes, body lotion, lip balms, hairbrushes, etc.! Have all of it organized right by the bed and you'll be able to feel beautiful and refreshed all day long, whenever you need it!
7. Gaming Console, Apple TV, and/or Laptop
Most gaming consoles, like an XBOX or a PS3, are more than just devices to play video games on, they're also full-blown media centers. You can stream music, movies, photographs, and even get online, all on your TV. For a cheaper option, without the video game component, check out Apple TV as a media center option. All of these options get you Netflix! Which, in my opinion, can turn pregnancy complications into a wonderful justification to get caught up on all of those shows and movies you've wanted to watch! A laptop is especially handy as you can shop online, blog, and chat with friends/family. And don't forget to prepare for labor and birth with an online childbirth class.
8. Stationary, Art Supplies, & a Notebook
Create your own baby shower invitations, knit baby clothes and gifts, create to-do lists, write in a journal, put together a scrapbook, etc.! The possibilities between the arts and writing are endless if you put your mind to staying busy during bed rest.
9. Buy or Create a Planner/Calendar
Having a planner with you will help you plan out your days, schedule visits with friends and family, and keep track of how you're spending your time. If you want to, you can even use your art supplies to fashion together your very own planner/calendar.
10. Organize Everything into a Side Table/Organizing Unit
With everything I've listed here, you'll need a good organizational system to keep it all straight and within reaching distance. A side table with organizational features can help you keep everything nice, tidy, and ready for use.
There you have it! With all of these items at your fingertips, I promise that your pregnancy complications won't bring you down. In fact, they'll give you plenty of time to harness your creative ability and catch up on so many things that you didn't even realize you were behind on. Make the best of it!
